
Students are getting ready for Grad Project!
>Graduation Project: The Grad Project is required by the State Board of Education for graduation from all NC high schools. This requirement is in effect for students who were 9th graders for the first time during the 2006-2007 school year and thereafter. Students at HSHS have a new website and email address where they can get information to get started.
>Athletic Awards: The 2nd Annual Varsity Letter Awards Night will be held Tuesday, May 27, 2008. ALL Varsity student athletes and their parents are invited. A BBQ dinner will be served at 6pm in the cafeteria followed by the awards program at 7pm in the Main Gym. BBQ tickets will be on sale during HOT Lunch the week of May 5 th and are $8 in advance or $10 the night of the event. Please see your coach if you have any questions
>Summer School: Summer school classes are FREE! HSHS will use the NovaNet lab for summer classes. Classes will be offered in the four core areas: English, Math, Science and Social Studies. Students must turn in application packets by 3:00 pm on June 10. Incomplete applications will NOT be accepted.
>Saturday School: Saturday, April 26, begins Saturday School for this semester. Saturday School lasts for four (4) hours beginning at 8:00 am & ending at 12:00 noon. The dates for 2nd semester are April 26, May 10, May 17, May 31 and June 7. Students must enroll before 12:00 noon on the Thursday prior to the Saturday School session. Students can enroll by visiting the attendance office and filling out the appropriate forms with Mrs. Zimmerman. Students are responsible for picking up work to complete in Saturday School from their teachers. Students will not be admitted if they have no work with them to complete.
>Seniors: If you are interested in Early Release for Dual Enrollment or an Internship next year, or if you are interested in graduating early, please stop by Student Services for a Request Form. Deadline to turn in the Early Graduation form is May 1st. Deadline to turn in the Early Release form is May 15th.
>Yearbook: Students still have time to pre-order a yearbook! If you pre-order your book you will save $10 www.jostensyearbooks.com
>BIG 5: The "Big 5" Tutorial program is in full swing! We have certified teachers who serve as tutors in the areas of Algebra I, English I, Civics and Economics, U.S. History, Biology and Geometry. Sign-up today in Student Services! You may attend Session I from 2:30 - 3:20 p.m. and/or Session II from 3:30 - 4:20 p.m. For more info, see flyer or any classroom teacher, counselor or administrator!
>Attendance: Saturday School is an opportunity for students to make-up any excused absences and up to 3 unexcused absences for the first semester of the 2007-2008 school year. Our attendance policy clearly states that students who accumulate more than 10 absences in any one class will not receive credit for the course. Students who have missed more than 10 days in any one class are strongly encouraged to attend Saturday School. Be sure to sign-up in the attendance office. Consideration for appeal will be given to students who have exceeded (10) absences in a course and have extenuating circumstances on which to appeal the Wake County Attendance Policy. >PROM: A Prom Committee Meeting will be held Wednesday, March 5th in the school's Media Center at 7:00-8:00 pm. This meetings is for any parent or community/business member that would be interested in helping with the prom. The first HSHS Prom will be held on Friday, May 2, 8:00-11:00 PM. The theme will be Mardi Gras Masquerade!
>SAT Preparation: Students now have access to an Online SAT Preparation Course. Interested students should come by Student Services to receive an Official SAT Online Course Card with an individual access code and instructions. Each student will receive only one access code card which will remain active until he or she graduates from high school.
>Drivers Ed: The last regular Driver Education class will begin on Monday, May 5, 2008.(Click here for class list). This will be the students’ last chance to sign up for Drivers Education this semester. Anyone wishing to take Driver Education after this class must fill out a Summer Registration Form which can be picked up in Student Services or online at jordandriving.com. For class list, location, and contact information go to the HSHS Student Website.
Be sure to have the following items with you when going to validate your Eligibility Certificate:
1. A parent to sign Driving Eligibility Certificate
2. Driver Education Certificate
3. Certified Birth Certificate
4. Copy of the previous semester’s report card with FINAL grades.
If you do not have your report card at the time you are obtainingyour DEC, students may pick up completed certificate the next day.
>HSHS Sports: Students interested in participating in sports need to contact athletic coaches to find out about try-out dates, practice schedules and basic requirements. A list of team sports and coaches can be found on the HSHS Athletics Website.
